| If the marketing for Star Trek sequel Into Darkness were a starship, it would be launching into high warp right now. The teaser poster showed a destroyed London, the "announcement trailer" gave us a proper first look at the film, and at the weekend, Paramount previewed the nine minutes of footage that will run before The Hobbit on some IMAX screens. Today brings the first new image from the movie. Take a look in the gallery below. The pic features Benedict Cumberbatch as the film's big bad, apparently locked in the Enterprise's brig (we assume it's the ship – it could always be a star base) with Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) looking on. Makes you wonder whether Cumberbatch is going all Loki and wants to be caught… As for the plot itself? That's largely under wraps, but we do know that Into Darkness will see Earth and Starfleet under attack and our heroes propelled into an epic chess game of life and death. Love will be challenged. Friendships will be torn apart. And sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. You can bet the odds will be against him and the situation will be grim. Oh, and one more thing. Possible spoiler alert! According to the caption on the image Collider got, Cumberbatch's character is named (highlight to see if you absolutely have to)... John Harrison. Let the speculationising beginnerate! Star Trek Into Darkness docks in cinemas on May 17. |
